I make a top twenty music list every year. This is a collection of albums that didn’t make the top twenty and yet are fine pieces of art. Find one that speaks to you and tell me which one it was in the comments. If there are no comments I will cry. Don’t troll me, I am easily offended, but I digress.
Model Home – One Year
Abstract Ambient Electronic. Mood music. Head turner.
Triathalon – Sleep Cycle
Alternative Electronic. Simple, catchy, fun.
Conway The Machine – From King To A GOD
Think we will look back at this rap album as the beginning of something special.
Scarypoolparty – Doom Hologram
This adventurous American Idol runner up is taking full advantage of his platform and making whatever kind of music he wants.
John Forte – Riddem Drive
The former Fugees member put together a memorable acoustic album including a moving take on Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill”
Brent Cobb- Keep ‘Em On They Toes
I’m good for at least one country record a year. Here it is.
The Mountain Goats – Getting Into Knives
They stole my heart with last year’s album, so they get some love here.
Jung Jae II – Seasons Of Change
The composer behind the soundtrack to last year’s Best Picture winner, Parasite, puts together an album of peace that could have been a Windham Hill release from days gone by.
Hugar – The Vasulka Effect: Music For The Motion Picture
This soundtrack of the documentary portraying the life and work of pioneers of video art Steina and Woody Vasulka is beautiful and mesmerizing.
Jyoti and Georgia Ann Muldrow – Mama, You Can Bet!
It feels like jazz found some if its roots this year. More creative outings. Or maybe my algorithms are getting better. This is a gem.
I liked the Scarypoolparty album. 😊
